Creating A Living Space For Your Jack Russell Puppy
Your Jack Russell puppy needs to have a space in your home to call his own. He needs more than just a bed, but rather a safe spot that he can use as a retreat whenever he needs to rest. Even though they are highly energetic dogs, Jack Russell puppies do need to take a break from time to time.
Puppy Proof His Space
Make sure there is nothing small in your Jack Russell puppy’s living space that he could choke on. He will chew on anything and everything in his area. Double check the area for dangerous objects. Also, make sure there is no wood in his living area. If he chews on wood, he will likely get splinters in his mouth.
Remove any chemicals or poisonous plants from your puppy’s reach. The dog will get into them, and they will cause serious damage to his, and often these substances can be fatal if ingested. Make sure that there is nothing heavy that can fall on your puppy. Jack Russells are small dogs, and they can be hurt by a falling object.
Give Your Jack Russell His Space
Jack Russell puppies need plenty of space to roam. Do not consider bringing a Jack Russell into a small living space, such as an apartment. Even though they are small, their natural hunting instincts make them crave energy. They need to have wide open spaces to roam and explore, and they will not likely be happy in a confined space, such as an apartment.
Consider A Crate
One of the best ways to train your Jack Russell pup to be happy and content in your home is to crate train your dog. A crate is somewhat like a den that your dog would make were he living in the wild. To create a safe crate space for your Jack Russell puppy, choose a crate that is large enough for an adult Jack Russell to turn around in comfortably. Line it with soft blankets, and make sure there is no sharp metal on the inside of the crate.
Avoid forcing your Jack Russell puppy into the crate, but place food treats inside to entice him to use the crate as his bed. Do crate your puppy at night. Not only will this teach him that the crate is a comfortable place to sleep, but it will also keep him from creating havoc throughout your home while you are asleep. Make sure he has a chew toy in his crate should he get bored. A crate is one of the most important Jack Russell puppy supplies you can purchase.
