Can You Tell Me Why My Dog Pee's When She Is Picked Up?

I have a Jack Russell Terrior. Everytime you go to pick her up to take her outside she starts peeing. Does anyone know why she does this? Any suggestions on how to stop her from doing this? I would greatly appreciate all the advice I can get.

This is really common, especially in smaller dogs. It's called Sumissive Urination. It's a way for the dog to show they recognize you as the boss. It could be because she's frightened by heights and sees it an as act of aggression, but she's more likely just doing it in response to you being so close to her.

    She is peeing out of fear. Let her walk to go outside. She obviously doesn't like being picked up.

    it would be from showing submissivness to you or whoever picks her up, has a full bladder and really needs to go and couldnt hold it anymore, do a ahhhhh sound and hold her on her back that would stop her because she would be distracted from your noise and would look at you to see what is going to happen next. and what I mean by holding her on her back is hold her back in your arm like your craddling her

    Sounds like nervous pee, try not picking her up and guiding her to the door to go outside. If she's a baby she hasn't developed bladder control yet give her time.

    Either when you pick her up it scares her so much that she pees (a friend of mine pees when she is scared and dogs are a lot like humans) or when you pick her up you are pushing on her bladder so she pees cuz she already has to go. You should just let her walk outside herself, I mean imagine if your mom carried you to the bathroom to pee, that would suck.

    try not picking her up, and every time you want her to bathroom try do something to tell her that you want her to go to the bathroom, this way you won't need picking her up.

    Every time I got home and touch my puppy she pee, so we try ignoring her for 5-10 mins and it got better.

    She is probably over-excited. Have her sit on the floor while you attach her leash and then let her walk outside.

    My dog peed on me once when I picked him up and he was really excited to see me — and he had just been outside to potty! He also peed on the groomer once when he was getting his nails clipped. I told her to put him on the table, but she tried to hold him under her arm while trimming his nails.
